Groomsmen ushers

- For the men helping in the wedding  ceremony, it’s a little more difficult to choose an right gift. If you can’t find something that
will be right for all of them, you can choose
comparable but different Gifts.

Beer steins, shot glasses, and other alike objects can
be used, or something else that will reflect their
individuality and thank them for helping in the marriage.

My friend Jill

Sunday, February 15th, 2009

I have a friend who is my age and is a lot like me. We are going to call her Jill although that is not her real name. She is a very hard working person, always going the extra mile to make sure everyone is happy and well served. She is also a devoted mother and we used to see each other very frequently in arenas when our children were playing hockey.

Last summer Jill called me and was pretty mad when she said: “I promised myself I would not cry!” She went on to tell me that a colonoscopy had revealed a malignant tumor in her colon and that she was scheduled to have it removed and then chimiotherapy. She needed more tests to see if the cancer had spread which I highly doubted since she is so young and they cought it in time…so I thought!

During one of the scans, she suffered a panic attack and could not tolerate being place on a secluded narrow box. It is easy for me to figure out what she was thinking then.

The tests revealed there was a spot on her liver. Her physicians decided to go with a very aggresive treatment and do surgery. By the time she got the surgery a couple of weeks later, there were now over 10 spots. Although everyone is enthousiastic and talking about the “spots” getting removed surgically which they did, I felt like the only person aware of the elephant in the  room. They are going to restart another set of chimio. I would choose every possible avenue if I were in Jill’s shoes.

Jill has the best attitude on the world and is fighting this with every once of courage she has. I just don’t know how to help her.

I send her all my love here tonight…because nobody deserves what she is going through.

Tough times are good times to give!

In such a rough economic period many people feel like they are down to their last dollars and cannot give to charity. There are many cheap or free ways to help people who are in need. By donating your time, you can make a huge difference in someone’s life. You will also feel good about what you are doing and maybe will be better placed to realize that your situation is not as bad as other’s.

As I often go on medical missions, I bring all kinds of little gifts for the children and women. My sister Isabelle and my niece Laurence had the great idea of creating all kinds of crafts to give away. Here are some pictures of what they had fun creating.

Nonetheless, there are examples of people who succeeded in weight loss and keeping fit. The one key element that is a constant in all these individual’s successful Losing weight and healthy training is that they somehow made the connection and committed to their own success. For all these individuals there was one trigger that materialized in their mind frame that created the spark and the drive to achieve their goal and more.
For every person the key element that will give them the starting push will be different. I had the chance of talking to a nutritionist and she was going on and on about healthy eating and Losing weight and in the back of my mind all I could think of was: “Yeah, that’s easy for you to say, you are a naturally skinny person.” As our conversation went on, she told me she had been overweight all her life and she even showed me the pictures to prove it. I must admit I was for yet another time in my life dead wrong. She told me that the thing that triggered her need and successful weight loss was that she had a colleague who was obese and who lost weight and that triggered in her head that she too could do it. I was inspired and encouraged to see her weight loss and that re-opened in my mind the thought that weight loss and staying fit is possible.
